HRA Sprints at I-90 Speedway

As the stars of the HRA sprint cars traveled from their home track to I-90 Speedway in Hartford SD, the weather was cold but the skies were clear. With 16 cars showing up to add to the regular show at I-90, everyone knew that the non-wingers where going to heat up the night with their left fronts off the ground!
The first heat took to the track and with a little jostling for the lead it was the number 87 of Matt Hasara that pulled away from the field! On the second lap the number 42 of Bruce Tull, and the number 4 of Eric “Ricochet” Schulz got together coming out of turn four. Both drivers masterfully gathered their cars up and where able to continue the race, Schulz with a flat left front.
The second heat saw more tight racing on a excellently prepared track. The number 29 of Gary Zitterich was forced to pull off with mechanical woes, while the 1 of Justin Zitterich had a great save after biking the car off the heavy cushion. It was I-90’s track champion Bret Mellenberndt in the 97 taking the checkered flag in the end.
The main started off with some furious racing for the lead with numerous lead changes. You could throw a blanket over the top five for the whole race. Dylan Peterson in the 25 and Gerod Olivier piloting the 2x diced it out with a patient Mellenberndt waiting to make his move. After 15 laps of flag to flag racing and cutting through the lapped traffic it was Olivier, Mellenberndt, Peterson, J. Zitterich and Schulz rounding out the top five.
It was a great (chilly) night for both I-90 Speedway and the HRA sprints. The non-wing features was the only feature to go flag to flag with no cautions and are looking forward to their return to the track on 8-28-2010! Hope to all of you there!
